About this lot

Beautiful canvas from the top period - gallery price: 2.000 € - Hannes Postma, born in 1933 in Haarlem, studied at the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam. His oeuvre consists of oil on linen paintings, iron and plaster sculptures, silkscreen prints and etchings. In the 1960s, the artist gained a lot of fame with his series of colour etchings. From 1973 to 1978 Postma made the series of 'sea paintings'. From 1979 onwards, Postma sought to join the Nieuwe Figuratie. As is characteristic of the art of the painters who belonged to this group, Postma combined figurative and abstract elements in his works. Typical of Postma's style is the use of imaginative shapes. The artworks are mostly layered and streaks of dripping paint are clearly visible. Other characteristics of Postma's art, and of the New Figuration, are the tension between the flat surface and the illusion of space, and the sparkling use of colour. His work is represented in the collections of companies, individuals, institutions and museums, including the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, the Frans Hals Museum in Haarlem and the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag.
