About this lot
Guyana Ipé, Djindja Udu, also known as Nargusta or Tanimbuca, is a durable hardwood native to South America, specifically Suriname. The heartwood varies from pale yellow to yellowish-brown, sometimes with reddish veins, and is distinguished by an even, natural color.
With a density of approximately 950 kg/m³ at 12% moisture content, Djindja Udu is a heavy type of wood. The wood has a strong resistance to moisture, fungi and insects, which makes it suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications.
Djindja Udu is widely used for flooring, carpentry, interior and exterior paneling, furniture and shipbuilding. When machining, pre-drilling is recommended to prevent splitting, and the wood dries very slowly with a risk of deformation and surface cracking.
With its high durability and aesthetic qualities, Djindja Udu is an excellent alternative to other hardwoods such as Ipé, especially considering the latter's availability issues.
