About this lot
The Triumph TR5 is a sports car built by the Triumph Motor Company in Coventry, England, between August 1967 and September 1968.
Visually similar to the Michelotti-designed TR4 roadster from which it was derived, the TR5 replaced Triumph's 105 hp SAE Standard inline-four engine.
At the same time, two versions of the bike and two new models were unveiled. The TR250, which was only for sale in North America, was equipped with a 111 hp version of the engine, this with twin 175 CD Zenith-Stromberg carburetors. Visually, this car was recognizable by the transverse 'speed stripes' over the hood and front wings. In later years, a number of TR250s were re-imported to Europe.
Our TR250 Overdrive is a beautiful example, finished in Signal Red. It's more than ready for many more enjoyable miles with the amount of work that has gone into it over the years. The car underwent a full restoration years ago, leaving the bodywork and chassis in excellent condition. The interior is also in excellent condition and is equipped with a beautiful leather Moto Lita steering wheel.
Mechanically, this TR250 has also been reviewed. The engine was completely overhauled in 2014. In 2017, the previous owner overhauled the gearbox, differential and Stromberg Carbs. Work has also been done on the suspension and brakes. A new Mohair soft top has been installed and it is in good condition. Because this car is equipped with the optional overdrive, it is just as wonderful to drive longer distances as on winding roads.
